As dedicated humanitarians, we have worked tirelessly to help make the world a better place. We may have been working to improve the environment, to raise consciousness, to end oppression and injustice to feed the hungry, to end poverty, or any of the many causes that demand the attention of progressive and compassionate people. Whatever our cause, it is important to realize that as change agents, we are part of a larger community, a community united in vision and values and whose goal is to create a better, more compassionate world.

While we must continue our independent existence and activities, it is as a community that our greatest potential to create widespread change is to be found. Our ability to inspire change and draw attention to emerging values can be greatly improved if we come together in shared purpose and mutual empowerment. It is time for the world to recognize the existence of a growing, powerful yet peaceful community united in ideals and dedicated to inspiring a worldwide renaissance.
In working alone, it is easy to become overwhelmed by the amount of work to be accomplished as well as by a sense of futility. However, there is greater strength in numbers; and fellowship in the company of many who are working towards similar goals will serve to provide a sense of certainty that our shared vision will be accomplished. This serves to provide hope and will motivate us all to sustained effort, dedication, and determination. Among other things, such an association of progressive organizations and individuals could be a place: 

* For the progressive community to express its common values as an increasingly recognized force for change 
* To explore and develop effective ways to promote service to humanity and the planet as a way of life 
* To encourage cooperation on projects that would otherwise be too large for a single organization or individual to undertake 
* To share knowledge and best practices which will help us make a greater impact on public opinion and encourage widespread demand for change at the grass roots level 
* To exchange ideas that increase the effectiveness of the progressive community as a whole 
* To promote collaboration among both individuals and organizations in the progressive community 
* To begin to identify and explore issues critical to the progressive change community 
* To begin to archive our work and accomplishments as a legacy to those who come after us as well as a means to influence the mainstream community

The Spiritual Unity Network is honored to host the first gathering of members from this community. Participation in this charter meeting is by invitation only. Charter participants have been chosen because of their humanitarian efforts and the compassionate, forward thinking philosophy underlying their work. However, we have every expectation that succeeding meetings will provide ample opportunity for all who are sincerely interested and who share the values of this community to participate.

The purpose of this meeting will be to explore the establishment of an association of humanitarian organizations and individuals that would provide the support, inspiration, and momentum mentioned earlier in this letter.

This groundbreaking charter meeting will be held on September 29, 2007 in Millburn New Jersey. Please look for updates and more information about the outcome of this historic meeting.
